Name: Samatsu [Samasu], Sadame [Alter]
Age: 24
Gender: AFAB, currently more He/They than anything else
Occupation: Signer of the Black Rose Dragon
Duel Information: Aromages
PB/Description: Imagine Sadame as you know him, but make this one dark-haired, dark-skinned, and perpetually exhausted by the idea of existing. That'd be the Sadame Alter-- someone who has had many restless nights sleep, and faces a nightmare most other times. And, well... That definitely leaves someone not looking very relaxed at all...
Personality: Blunt and deadpan to a fault, Sadame Alter feels there's no point in changing how he interacts with others-- it's not going to avoid the horrors he constantly foresees anyway. As someone whose ability is to effectively "predict the worst outcomes", they've long since given up trying to do things to help others to dodge those outcomes, having been desensitized to the odds except in the most dire of cases. While the Black Rose Dragon's abilities have helped to suppress the worst of this, the years have taken a toll on him, giving them a pessimistic, almost nihilistic worldview.
He does, however, like gardening as an expression of themselves, as well as the sound of clocks and the inner workings of them. He feels that once he steps outside of human involvement or the greater expanse of the world itself, they're able to relax, if only for a moment-- clocks are designed to be predictable, after all, and gardening can sometimes depend on things he can't control himself, allowing them to not feel as tightly wound about the experience as long as he can keep it to himself. He also feels that when it comes to themself and how he portrays themselves, it's the one thing he can control without precognition getting in the way, since he doesn't really care how others perceive him, at this point.
As a Signer, he takes his responsibility concerning his "duties" rather seriously, even if those duties may have shifted somewhat due to the domino effect of Empress Suzume's rise to power after the previous Black Rose Dragon was disposed of in response. But, well-- they have to pay back the fact that the current one's been suppressing the worst of their precognition, at least, and he aims to do it.
Officially to those around them, he is diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic thanks to a lack of understanding about his abilities. ... but also they aren't actually wrong about the "paranoid" part.
History: Second-born child in the family, ever since a young age, Sadame's been plagued by nightmares both sleeping and waking, thanks to precognitive abilities that were wildly out of their control. As his family focused instead on his eldest sibling, he was constantly overshadowed despite needing help-- but to be fair, no amount of therapy or medication would've likely assisted the problems that they had, even when it finally got to a point where they could seek help.
That is, until the alter-world events with the Black Rose Dragon killing Samatsu Shikou happened, purely because he had been falsely read as a potential Dark Signer, thus awakening him to the power of the Obsidian Lord, an otherworldy existence from the outer reaches of the cosmos that possesses a human every thousands or so years, and awakening Yamamoto Suzume to her role as his queen... which resulted in the then-current Black Rose Dragon being killed, consumed, and revived as a servant under the direct control of the now-queen.
However, this isn't the end of the Black Rose Dragon herself-- the Crimson Dragon works off of a constant wheel of reincarnation, and eventually, a new "Black Rose Dragon" splintered off from it to become her own being once more, with need of a new partner.
And well, Sadame, in this case, ended up being next in line. She approached them with an offer: Accept her and the duties of a Signer, and she'll help suppress his precognitive abilities, until such a time that he can learn to control them. Of course, he took this offer immediately, finding it to be a better outcome than literally... anything else, assisted by the clarity she offered in that moment as well to help them come to their decision.
Of course, even with a new Black Rose Dragon and Signer around, they found it better to cooperate with the Empress Suzume, especially as the situation had already escalated into the takeover of Japan.
... However, another obstacle that Sadame ended up encoutering was the fact that the Dark Signers were happening at the time, and thanks to the False Positive that Shikou gave up, the real target of the Earthbound Immortal, Wiraqocha Rasca, ended up taking control of Sadame's elder sibling, Shiei, when they were hit by a car after wandering out into the street in a daze for then-unknown reasons.
Sadame does not like talking about what had to be done, there.
Abilities: Is a Signer. So he has all abilities related to uh, Signering, including a form of Psychic Dueling abilities.
But also as a Samasu, Sadame Alter has the ability of Precognition [LIGHT-focused]-- though as noted, their abilities tend to slant towards predicting the worst outcomes thanks to the unpredictability and uncontrollability of their powers compared to the (deceased and ghostly) Prime Sadame. As a result, he considers it to be more of a curse than a blessing, and Black Rose Dragon's presence manages to repress them to a... tolerable level.
Duel Spirit:
Name: Black Rose Dragon [Alias: Viola]
Personality: A respectable if entirely focused-on-duty type, Black Rose does things with a flourish and a sense of "I know what's best and right" when it comes to situations, feeling that when it comes to humans, it's truly best that she makes the decisions henceforth. In a sense, this comes off as a motherly attitude, but it's very much a "being beyond humans thinking kindly of them" way.
Which, admittedly, is what got her predecessor killed in the first place, but that's a minor detail. Having the assistance now of a naturally precognitive Signer helps her side-step such issues, anyway.
The one thing that can be admitted though is that as a "new" Black Rose Dragon, she lacks the innate experience of the older one, so her actions can carry a sense of rashness, like someone who has read about what to do, and feels confident that they can do it, but... Hasn't really had the ability to test that out in practice.
Also, this one likes to take on a bishonen-style look to match her Signer's feeling out of their identity. She feels it gives her a very dignified look.
History: Some time ago, in another world, the Black Rose Dragon [then named Cesaria] had assured herself that killing those who had been given the sign of being marked by the Earthbound Immortals was the best choice to make-- that the sacrifice of those few would lead to the problem being sidestepped entirely. Be this due to simply not realizing that Earthbounds latch onto the recently deceased, or ego on the Dragons' parts, one may never know.
Because after she targeted Samatsu Shikou, someone who had falsely read as being a potential host to an Earthbound, she caused a chain reaction that not only resulted in the ascension of him as the Obsidian Lord, but also the anger-fueled ascension of his chosen queen, Yamato Suzume, who proceeded to kill and absorb the power of the Black Rose Dragon.
And well, in most stories, this would be the end, if this current Black Rose Dragon hadn't formed from the many cyclic parts of the Crimson Dragon and the Five-God Dragon combined. As someone who "knows" what had happened, but never actually experienced the actions herself, her focus was simply on getting back into the fray, and quickly, before the awakening of the Dark Signers truly took place.
And well, with luck, she found someone who was not only a suitable Signer, but also was rapidly becoming a part of the issue at hand...
Abilities: She's a dragon, part of many who are eternally reincarnated. She has the ability to take on a human form if need be, though pride does make it difficult for her to stand being like it for too long, preferring her dracognic form first and foremost. But she also has some psychic abilities, ranging from plant control and communing, but also able to place a psychic "dampener" effect on others-- something that she uses near-constantly for her Signer to block out most unwarranted predictions until they can better handle them on their own.
